Evaluation and Manual Treatment of Headaches, Head Pain and Migraines

December 6 – December 8, 2024

$650

BOC Essential Level

The goal of this class is to present the arthrokinematics of motion of the upper and lower cervical spine as it applies to both normal and dysfunction movement pattern. Upper cervical biomechanics and lower cervical biomechanics will be differentiated so as to have a clearer understanding of pain pattern presentation.

Assessment and treatment will include Muscle Energy Techniques, Counterstrain, Travell concepts and myofascial techniques will be employed and demonstrated in laboratory sessions.

18 contact hours – 18 1-A hours anticipated – NATA/BOC Approved Provider #P8765 NCBTMB Approved Provider #1597 AMBP School Member #1084335

At the conclusion of the presentation, the participant should be able to:

  1. Identify the concepts and components of Occiput, Atlas and Axis somatic dysfunction.
  2. Identify the concepts and components of the lower cervical vertebrae somatic dysfunction.
  3. Differentiate between normal and abnormal biomechanics of the upper and lower cervical spine.
  4. Formulate a working knowledge of normal biomechanics of the upper and lower cervical spine, including facet arthrokinematics, Fryette’s laws of spinal motion, and use this model in organizing an assessment and treatment plan.
  5. Assess the biomechanical implications of somatic dysfunction in the same areas in order to provide appropriate treatment.
  6. Apply Muscle Energy Techniques to change the areas of somatic dysfunction.

A functional approach to chronic and acute care in clinical practice.

Over the last two years it has become clear that as manual therapists we need to be able to treat our patients when the medical system has failed. What the last two years made apparently clear is that every clinician must be educated to make the best choices given the fact that our current system fell apart and patients were left without care, unable to get routine treatment and unable to maintain access to their providers. The addition of telehealth visits has left a void in the personal connection with medical providers. The evaluation and assessment of the patient who has anything, but the most basic problems leave them in a precarious position.

This class will help to fill that void so that we can be better prepared to manage this type of situation and provide reasonable care to our patients.

Target Audience: Healthcare providers including, but not limited to: MD, DO, PT, AT, MT, RN, OT, and other licensed or certified healthcare providers.
