Introduction to Muscle Energy Technique, Pelvis, Sacrum and Lumbar Spine

March 21 – March 23, 2025

$650

The goal of this class is to present concepts of motion of the pelvis, sacrum and lumbar spine as it applies to both normal and dysfunctional bio-mechanical motion. Specific normal load bearing biomechanics and gait will be presented as it applies to lower extremities and how forces are translated from heel strike up into the pelvic/lumbar region. Specific sacral biomechanics of motion and dysfunction will be addressed in both in lecture and lab.

Several treatment concepts will be presented including Muscle Energy Technique, inhibitory technique, and other manual techniques associated with normalizing pelvic girdle bio-mechanical function. An intensive review of functional anatomy will be included in lab time.

At the conclusion of the presentation, the participant should be able to:

  1. Identify the concepts and components of somatic dysfunction that
are involved in the long and short levers affecting the pelvic
    girdle.
  2. Differentiate between normal and abnormal biomechanical function of the locomotor system.
  3. Formulate a working knowledge of how the pelvis affects the overall function of the musculoskeletal. And, use this model in organizing an assessment and treatment plan.
  4. Assess the implications of complex somatic dysfunction in the same areas in order to provide appropriate treatment.
  5. Apply Osteopathic Manual Techniques to change the areas of somatic dysfunction.

A functional approach to chronic and acute care in clinical practice.

Over the last two years it has become clear that as manual therapists we need to be able to treat our patients when the medical system has failed. What the last two years made apparently clear is that every clinician must be educated to make the best choices given the fact that our current system fell apart and patients were left without care, unable to get routine treatment and unable to maintain access to their providers. The addition of telehealth visits has left a void in the personal connection with medical providers. The evaluation and assessment of the patient who has anything, but the most basic problems leave them in a precarious position.

This class will help to fill that void so that we can be better prepared to manage this type of situation and provide reasonable care to our patients.
